The Fountain of the Earth
By H.L. Le Roy
"Terra Vonn is fighting to survive in a destroyed world, surrounded by unspeakable horror . . . and things are about to get much worse."
After witnessing the horrific murder of her mother, fifteen-year-old Terra Vonn has a singular focus—exacting revenge on the killers. But before she can complete her plan, savagery intervenes, and she is cast alone into a brutal post-apocalyptic world. As she trails the murderers south—through a land filled with cannibalistic criminals, slave traders, and lunatics—the hunter becomes the hunted. Terra quickly learns that she is not as tough or as brave as she thought she was. Worse, she may be the only one who stands between what little remains of civilization and destruction. Overall, this book had a great story. The main character, Terra, behaved exactly how most people I know would have in most of those situations. I love how strong she made Terra seem mentally. In every situation, when most would lay down and let people walk over them, Terra held her head high and continued. I honestly enjoyed how the author took adult situations and kept them PG so to speak. There was no overly descriptive section about them. I felt I could read them and not cringe as bad as I would with other books.
However, I felt the book dragged on in places. Sometimes it seemed that almost everyone the characters came across wanted to either kill them or rape them. I understand this was to convey how dangerous the world they lived in was, but I felt it was a bit much for me. I felt the romantic relationship between Terra and Ethan was lacking in some depth.
